Department of Revenue Secretary Peter Barca announced this week that he has appointed Patty Mayers to serve as the department’s Assistant Deputy Secretary, effective March 25, 2024.
“Having directed communications for two large public-facing state agencies, Patty brings strategic communications experience to this position. A key member of our senior leadership team, she is customer focused and an asset to this department,” said Barca.
Mayers has been Communications Director for the Department of Revenue since 2017. Previously, she was Director of the Office of Public Affairs for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and has more than 20 years of experience in state government. Mayers helped launch the Communication Leaders Advisory Council for the Federation of Tax Administrators.
Earlier in her career she worked as Director of Trails Books for Trails Media Group, a regional book and magazine publisher (Wisconsin Trails Magazine) and for Madison Newspapers, Inc. where she held positions in advertising.
Mayers has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from UW-Madison.
Janet Piraino, who served as Assistant Deputy Secretary this past year, will continue with the department for a limited time as a senior advisor.
