In a series of new ads from the Harris campaign targeting battleground voters, Tina Hinchley, a Wisconsin dairy farmer who nearly lost her life due to cancer, speaks directly to voters on how the Affordable Care Act saved both her life and livelihood – while warning that if Trump has the chance, he will kill the ACA.
“I had a brain tumor the size of a grapefruit. It was $187,000 to get this taken out,” said Hinchley. “Back then, most farmers could not afford health insurance. When the tumor came back, the Affordable Care Act saved my life and my farm.”
“Better Off Dying,” “Saved My Life,” and radio spot “Doggone It” continue the campaign’s broader efforts efforts to lay out stakes of this election when it comes to health care – an issue that a new Gallup poll found two-thirds of Americans felt needed to be discussed more this campaign cycle. Yesterday, the campaign launched two health care-focused ads – “Concepts of a Plan” and “Yamelisa” – following a new report spotlighting the view from independent experts and analysts that Trump’s “concepts of a plan” would be devastating for Americans in every corner of our country, including those with preexisting conditions, young people, women, Latinos, seniors, and rural Americans.
Trump attempted to gut the Affordable Care Act and deny coverage to more than 100 million Americans with preexisting health conditions – like Hinchley – in his first term. Now, his Project 2025 health care plan would be even more devastating – throwing millions of Americans off their insurance and risking the closure of more than 500 rural at-risk hospitals by terminating the Affordable Care Act. Meanwhile, Vice President Harris is committed to strengthening health care protections, lowering health care and prescription drug costs, and ensuring access to health care is a right, not just a privilege for a wealthy few.
Part of Team Harris-Walz’s historic $370 million fall paid media campaign targeting voters from across the Harris-Walz coalition, this new series of ads will air nationally during large audience programming like Big Brother, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, the American Music Awards, and the 60 Minutes election special, and on local broadcast and cable in battleground markets.
HINCHLEY: Can I share something with you that is horrible?
I would be better off dying instead of leaving my family generational debt.
There’s times when it’s in the back of my head that it would have been easier had I died.
Then you don’t have to worry about the reoccurrence of another tumor, more bills every time you go for another checkup. All of it just keeps adding up and adding up.
A few years ago, I survived another brain tumor and breast cancer. But now, the Affordable Care Act has been passed and now I have coverage.
It saved my life and my business. Donald Trump says he wants to kill the Affordable Care Act. He doesn’t care what that would mean for families like mine.
Trump only cares about himself. Before the Affordable Care Act, I could have lost everything – my farm, my life, my family.
Unlike Trump, Kamala Harris is fighting for everyday, hard working people. She has fought for us to get health care and she is fighting for us to keep it.
VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS: I’m Kamala Harris and I approve this message.
HINCHLEY: I knew something was wrong.
My head was just pounding. Come to find out, I had a brain tumor the size of a grapefruit. It was $187,000 to get this taken out.
Back then, most farmers could not afford health insurance.
When the tumor came back, the Affordable Care Act saved my life and my farm.
Trump is coming for our health care. That’s pretty damn scary.
Kamala Harris cares about us. She fought for us to get health care and she is fighting for us to keep it.
VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS: I’m Kamala Harris and I approve this message.
HINCHLEY: It’s 2006 while I’m milking cows.
I’m noticing every once in a while, not only do I have a headache, but I’m noticing black spots in my vision. It turns out it was a brain tumor the size of a grapefruit.
My name is Tina Hinchley. We run a family farm. Back then, most farmers didn’t have health insurance. You try to figure out, what are you going to do to pay these bills?
2013 my brain tumor comes back, and I’m also diagnosed with breast cancer, but now the Affordable Care Act has been passed, and now I have coverage.
Farmers and people in the rural communities depend on affordable health care. Trump doesn’t care if he takes away health care from us. He doesn’t care what the consequences would be for me and my family.
Doggone it, Kamala Harris is out there for us, protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act.
She fought for us to get health care, and she’s fighting for us to keep it.
VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS: I’m Kamala Harris, candidate for president, and I approve this message. Paid for by Harris for President.
