Yesterday across Wisconsin, elected and community leaders joined Wisconsin educators for Educators for Harris-Walz and Wisconsin Democrats’ canvass launches to mark World Teachers’ Day. Trump’s dangerous Project 2025 blueprint would slash funding for our public schools – including rural public schools – and abolish the Department of Education and Head Start, all while giving massive tax handouts to his billionaire donors and big corporations.

It’s a stark contrast from Vice President Harris and Governor Walz’s vision for a New Way Forward that ensures parents can afford high-quality child care and preschool for their children, ends the unreasonable burden of student loan debt, and fights to make higher education more affordable — so that college can be a ticket to the middle class.

Local educators launch a canvass for the Harris-Walz and WI Democrats campaign in Green Bay.

“Trump’s Project 2025 has a blueprint for getting rid of the Department of Education. If he’s reelected, he would slash funding for our K-12 schools, all the while giving massive tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations,” said Brent Bergstrom, President of the Green Bay Education Association. “As teachers, we take our responsibility to our students extremely seriously. And that’s why we’re here today. To fight for our schools and our students.”

Local educators launch a canvass for the Harris-Walz and WI Democrats campaign in La Crosse.

“Donald Trump … would be terrible for Wisconsin teachers, schools, and students,” said John Bausch, a retired teacher in La Crosse. “As President, Trump proposed massive cuts to public education and has praised MAGA Republican efforts to block student loan forgiveness. He tried to gut the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program and freeze the maximum Pell Grant, a program that helps families afford college. And a second term would be even worse.”

Local educators launch a canvass for the Harris-Walz and WI Democrats campaign in Superior.

“We want our teachers and students to have the resources that they need,” said Laura Gapske, a member of the Superior School Board. “Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are the only candidates on the ballot who are going to support our educators.”

Local educators launch a canvass for the Harris-Walz and Democrats campaign in Milwaukee.

“We have to take a stand against Donald Trump and JD Vance,” said Luz Hernandez, the Vice President of the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association. “Their extreme Project 2025 agenda would eliminate the Department of Education. It would abolish Head Start, end universal pre-K, and end the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. As teachers, we know that investing in education is investing in our future.”

Michael Jones and Mayor Rhodes-Conway launch a canvass for the Harris-Walz and Democrats campaign in Madison.

“Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz are talking about a New Way Forward. Donald Trump and JD Vance have been terrible for students and families. We need to invest in each other, not in new tax breaks for the wealthy,” said Michael Jones, president of the teachers’ unit with Madison Teachers. “Kamala Harris has helped deliver the largest investment in K-12 education ever, is providing billions in student loan relief and making a college degree more accessible, making record investments in HBCUs and other minority serving institutions, and fighting for better teacher pay. That’s why I’m proud that we are here today fighting for Harris-Walz.”

Kim Schroeder, Vice President of WEAC launches a canvass for the Harris-Walz campaign in Wausau.

“While Donald Trump has only ever served himself, Kamala Harris’ client has always been the people – especially our children,” said Colleen Geurink, a former Marathon Public Schools teacher. “Now, she and Governor Walz are offering a New Way Forward – a future for our country where people can not only get by, but get ahead, and they recognize that to achieve that, our next generation needs to be equipped with a high-quality education.”

Colorado Senator Michael Bennet launches a canvass for the Harris-Walz and WI Democrats campaign in Waukesha.

“I really believe that we can create a country where the zip code you’re born into doesn’t determine the quality of your education. That’s not the country we’re living in today, but that’s what we’re fighting for,”said Senator Michael Bennet. “The kids I used to work for in Denver and the teacher that I used to work for in Denver are invisible to Donald Trump. They’re not invisible to Kamala Harris”
