On Friday, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stopped in Wisconsin’s capital city of Madison to rally students and supporters around Vice President Kamala Harris’s vision for protecting reproductive freedoms. Representative Ocasio-Cortez drew a stark contrast between Donald Trump and JD Vance’s extreme project 2025 agenda to implement a nationwide abortion ban, punish healthcare providers and women who seek reproductive care, and jeopardize access to IVF with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who are fighting to protect reproductive rights in every state so all women can access the care they need and deserve.

[Jones Millstone-Rivo, 9/28/24]
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., spoke Friday evening at The Orpheum Theatre in Madison as part of the Harris-Walz campaign’s “Fighting for Reproductive Freedom” bus tour.
With only 39 days remaining until the 2024 election, the congresswoman stressed the importance of voting to protect Americans’ reproductive freedoms.
“It’s right here in Wisconsin that is the front line of the fight on reproductive rights, not just for folks in this state, or in the region, but also nationally, because Wisconsin is a must-win state,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Just as Americans saw in 2020, student voter turnout will play a critical role in the outcome of this election, especially in Wisconsin, Ocasio-Cortez told The Badger Herald after the rally.
“With a race this close in several states across the country, where the margin comes down to one to two points, we are going to have to put together our entire coalition, and young people are a critical, core element of that coalition,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the importance of the youth vote in Wisconsin and championed abortion rights on behalf of the Harris-Walz campaign in Madison Friday as part of its “Fighting for Reproductive Freedom” bus tour.
Over 500 people were in attendance at The Orpheum Theater, according to a Harris-Walz campaign official.
“It’s really important that we decide on future-focused issues for young people, whether it’s climate, whether it’s reproductive freedoms or whether it’s freedoms for things like raising the minimum wage and more,” Ocasio-Cortez told The Daily Cardinal.
The crowd welcomed Ocasio-Cortez to the stage, and Wisconsin, with loud cheers. She focused much of her speech on the right to choose and the choices that her family and everyday Americans make each day.
One of the most poignant moments of Ocasio-Cortez’s speech was her recount of her sexual assault while working as a waitress in New York City. Weeks after being sexually assaulted and late on her period, she remembered sitting in a bathroom with a pregnancy test, waiting three minutes to see the result.
“In that moment, in those three minutes, one clear beaming thought went through as I held that stick, ‘Thank God I have a choice,’” she said.
