The Dem-aligned House Majority PAC today launched two new 30-second TV ads knocking GOP U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden.
House Majority PAC has nearly $2.6 million in reservations in the 3rd CD between today and the election, according to AdImpact. It’s part of the $3.8 million that Dem Rebecca Cooke and the groups backing her have reserved over that period, compared to the $2.2 million by Van Orden, R-Prairie du Chien, and those supporting him.
One of the spots opens with the narrator asking, “Who does Derrick Van Orden think he is?” The spot then focuses on reported comments Van Orden made during a confrontation in the U.S. Capitol with Senate pages.
“I don’t give a f— who you are. I’m a Congressman.”
Gaylord Oppegard, identified as a U.S. Army veteran from Hixton, then says Van Orden doesn’t care about making “our lives better” and sides with “extremists who tried to cut Social Security.”
“Wisconsin deserves better, and Derrick Van Orden does not belong in Congress,” he says.
Oppegard also appears in the second spot in which he says Van Orden wants to “repeal the law that stops insurance companies from denying coverage if you have a preexisting health condition.” He also says Van Orden sides with extremists and would give tax cuts to the wealthy.
Like the other spot, the ad closes saying Van Orden doesn’t belong in Congress.
