The NRSC and Hovde are up with a new TV ad in which the businessman says he opposes a national abortion ban.
Baldwin and those backing her have hit Hovde regularly on his past comments that he supported overturning Roe v. Wade.
Hybrid ads such as the new spot require a joint message about a party and a candidate. The spot opens saying national Dems have been a “disaster” with higher prices and open borders and can’t defend their record so they lie about abortion.
The spot then features Hovde speaking directly to the camera saying he opposes a national abortion and “early in a pregnancy,” women should have the “right to decide.” Hovde says he supports exceptions and closes the spot saying, “the people of Wisconsin need to decide this issue, not politicians in Washington.”
Meanwhile, Hovde’s new spot from his campaign says there’s a “clear choice” between Baldwin, who he calls a “38-year career politician” and himself, a “businessman and job creator.” He says Baldwin supports taxpayer benefits for illegal immigrants, while he’ll close the border.
“Tammy wants to put guys in girls sports and in their bathrooms. I’ll protect our daughters,” Hovde says before adding “Baldwin abuses the political system” while he’ll “fight the corruption.”
