Today, in Appleton and Milwaukee, Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski and Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez joined Wisconsin parents and child care advocates to hold Donald Trump accountable for his plan to give tax handouts to billionaires and big corporations at the expense of hardworking middle-class families.

While Trump and his Project 2025 agenda will raise costs and hike taxes on middle-class families by nearly $4,000 per year, Vice President Harris is committed to cutting taxes for middle-class Wisconsinites. Her New Way Forward agenda will restore the expanded Child Tax Credit, providing up to $3,600 a year per child tax credit for middle-class families, and ensure that no one earning less than $400,000 a year pays more in new taxes.

Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski and local child care leaders speak at a press conference in Appleton.

“Kamala Harris’ plan would lower expenses for working-class families by restoring this much-needed child tax credit so parents actually have more money to spend on food, child care, or other necessities,” said Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski. “Donald Trump and JD Vance want to raise costs on Wisconsin families – in their Project 2025 agenda, costs for middle-class families would increase by almost $4,000 in tax hikes. Trump would even cut costs for billionaires and big corporations at the expense of working families.”

“Donald Trump and Republicans do not care about working families – or about helping families access and afford child care,” said Jason Hodkiewicz, owner of Play and Grow Learning Center in Appleton. “In this election, we all have a choice to make. We can choose an economy built for Donald Trump and the ultra-rich, or we can choose an economy built for you and me, for the hardworking, middle-class families who make up the backbone of America.”

“Vice President Harris’ plan would lower expenses for middle-class families with children by restoring the expanded child tax credit. She wants to give families tax credits of up to $3,600 per child, and provide a new credit of $6,000 for the first year of a child’s life. Kamala Harris knows that families with young children don’t just need to get by – they should be able to get ahead,” said Wisconsin mother Nicole Slavin. “Meanwhile, Donald Trump and JD Vance have zero plans to make child care more affordable and lower costs for American families. In fact, they want to raise taxes on middle-class families by nearly $4,000 per year with their dangerous Project 2025 agenda – making it harder for parents like me to afford child care and other necessities.”

Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez and local child care leaders speak at a press conference in Milwaukee.

“Vice President Harris’ New Way Forward agenda will cut taxes for working families and expand the child tax credit to give families breathing room and peace of mind knowing that their children have the support they need to thrive,” said Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez. “Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would raise costs by nearly $4,000 for working parents by doubling down on the failed policies that put his own interests first while giving enormous handouts to billionaires and corporations during his first presidency.”

“[Donald Trump and JD Vance’s] Project 2025 agenda would make life more expensive for Wisconsin families by raising taxes on middle-class families by thousands of dollars per year while giving more handouts to big corporations. And while their plans increase costs on every aspect of our lives, they offer no relief for working families. In fact, their Project 2025 agenda would eliminate Head Start, which would deepen the child care crisis in Wisconsin, pushing parents out of the workforce by eliminating child care slots desperately needed in Milwaukee and across the state,” said Wisconsin mother Kaleena Stephan. “Working parents shouldn’t have to make impossible choices. Vice President Harris’ plan will ensure parents can take care of their families and do their jobs.”

“[Donald Trump’s] Project 2025 agenda would increase costs for families by nearly $4,000 a year by slapping a Trump sales tax on goods that families rely on, like gas, food, clothing, and medicine – making it harder for us to pay for daycare,” said Kahlila Fennell, owner of Humbled Hearts Child Development Center in Milwaukee. “In this election, we all have a choice to make. We can choose an economy built for Donald Trump and the ultra-rich, or we can choose an economy built for you and me, for the hardworking, middle-class families who make up the backbone of America.”
