The State’s Top Cop Endorses Dr. Lyerly in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District
Green Bay, WI – Today, Dr. Kristin Lyerly, the Democratic nominee for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, announced an endorsement from Wisconsin’s Attorney General, Josh Kaul. The state’s top cop is now the highest-level law enforcement professional to endorse any candidate in the race for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, a district encompassing Green Bay and much of Northeast Wisconsin. The endorsement comes after several high-profile national groups and elected officials have come out supporting her campaign and after she topped the entire field in fundraising.
“We need leaders like Dr. Kristin Lyerly in office to move beyond the partisanship and gridlock that have consumed the House of Representatives,” Attorney General Josh Kaulsaid. “Dr. Lyerly is focused on getting things done and protecting our freedoms. I’m proud to endorse her campaign.”
“As the partner of a Green Bay police officer and a medical professional myself, I know how important it is to have safe communities and committed public safety professionals; that’s why it means so much to have the Attorney General behind me in this race. I look forward to collaborating with Attorney General Kaul to craft policy that funds law enforcement and protects our community,” Dr. Kristin Lyerly said.
Although the 8th District has been held by a Republican since 2011 – the beginning of gross partisan gerrymandering in Wisconsin – it has flipped control 15 times in its history. Now an open seat that represents famously independent voters, the showdown between the Trump-endorsed, anti-abortion candidate Wied and Lyerly, the OB/Gyn doctor whose name is on the judgment that brought abortion back to Wisconsin, is shaping up to become THE national referendum on abortion. The state also has newly redrawn state legislative maps, which will likely boost statewide turnout from Democrats in the November election.
