Dear Colleagues,

For more than a decade, Wisconsin’s Republican leadership fundamentally undermined our democracy. They gerrymandered districts to protect their majorities, changed the rules to benefit their party, threatened illegitimate actions like impeaching duly elected officials, and ignored the will of the people.

We’ve spent the last decade fighting against almost-insurmountable obstacles. But we, and people across our state, never gave up.

Folks in every corner of Wisconsin continued fighting for better — for a legislature that was representative of their communities and our collective priorities. And now, we stand on the brink of a new opportunity. After years of hard work from folks of every background, in every part of the state, the Wisconsin State Assembly will better reflect the will of the people.

We will face both new challenges and new opportunities. Thanks to Wisconsin’s fair maps and our strategic and well-executed campaign program this cycle, Assembly Democrats will come back to this building stronger and in greater numbers than at any point in more than a decade. I am confident we can build on our work this year to win a Democratic trifecta in the next election cycle. Together, our Assembly Democratic Caucus will have the chance to advocate for popular policies that will improve peoples’ lives, work collaboratively with our partners and colleagues across the aisle, and do what’s right for the people of Wisconsin.

As we embark on this historic opportunity, I am asking for your vote to continue serving as our Assembly Democratic Leader.

As leader, I have worked to unify this caucus around our shared priorities and win critical elections. I have prioritized listening to our members and building off of our collective strengths. We have pushed back on Republicans when necessary and put forward a vision of the Wisconsin we want to build.

Together, we protected the veto, even in difficult circumstances. We advocated for our constituents. And we moved our state forward. Today, I am asking for your vote because I believe we can continue this strong forward momentum and build a future where everyone in our state has the ability to thrive.

Next session, we will put forward a visionary and inclusive policy agenda. We will help craft a budget that works for every Wisconsinite, in every community. And we will reflect the will of the people. Voters have elected each of us, on both sides of the aisle, to the legislature. And now, it’s up to us to work towards our common goal: serving the people of our state.

But we must also hold the line. The attacks on our rights and our communities will continue. Legislative Republicans will attempt to move our state backwards and try to divide us based on what we look like, who we love, or where we live.

But alongside Governor Evers and our growing number of Democratic colleagues in the Senate, we will keep fighting to pass policy that supports all of our constituents to make a good living, afford access to healthcare, send their kids to great schools, protect our environment, and live in safe and welcoming communities. We will leverage our increased numbers to accomplish real wins for our communities throughout the budget process. And we will continue to protect Wisconsinites’ rights, strengthen our representative democracy, and move our state forward.

With your support, I will continue to use and grow our caucus’ ability to accomplish our shared goals. My staff and I will continue to be an honest, supportive, and proactive partner to you and your team—especially given the opportunities before us.

I believe in this caucus, and I believe in what we can achieve together. Let’s get to work.

Sincerely,

Rep. Greta Neubauer

Assembly Democratic Leader
