MADISON, Wis – Yesterday, Marquette University President Michael R. Lovell passed away after a three-year battle with a rare cancer. In response, Representative Kalan Haywood (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement:

“The passing of President Lovell is a deep loss to our community. President Lovell was a great leader of a thriving institution. His decade of service to the University made the Marquette Campus, and the City of Milwaukee better and brighter places that created opportunities for so many. His work to expand and innovate the state of higher education, and to address mental health issues in Milwaukee, is far reaching and will be felt throughout the community for years to come.

“I wish to extend my deepest condolences to his wife Amy, his family, friends, and the many in the Marquette community that looked to him for leadership.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.”
