MADISON – Representative Jenna Jacobson (D-Oregon) released a statement in support of the budget proposal announced by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jill Underly.
Rep. Jacobson said, “All children in Wisconsin should have access to a quality, public education. For too long the state has been underfunding public education, forcing schools across our district and Wisconsin to rely on increasing property taxes to maintain operations.
“Dr. Underly has laid out a plan to increase state funding for special education to 90% of the cost over two years. This would put money back into the general funds of school districts and reduce the need to increase property taxes by referendum.
“Dr. Underly’s plan also funds retaining teachers, implementing literacy initiatives, youth mental health needs, and provides healthy meals for kids to help them learn. This budget has so many pieces that reflect the priorities I have heard across our district.”
