Representative Angie Sapik has expressed deep concern over the recent ballot error in the Town of Summit, where redistricting has caused confusion among voters after being moved from the 73rd Assembly District to the 74th Assembly District.

“The recent ballot error in the Town of Summit is a serious issue. Fortunately, the primary election results in both Assembly Districts 73 and 74 were wide enough that the Town of Summit results couldn’t have swayed the election. My concern is that residents of Summit may feel disenfranchised.

Had the election results been closer, we would be having a very different conversation today.” said Representative Sapik. “I have spoken with the county clerk Kaci Jo Lundgren and we are working together to find out exactly how this happened and will work with the Elections Committee in Madison on the issue, as well..”

In light of these developments, Representative Sapik is asking the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections and Chairman Scott Krug to consider holding an informational hearing to address the public’s concerns. This hearing could provide an opportunity to identify the root cause
of the error and develop solutions to prevent similar issues from arising in future elections.

“It is imperative that we uphold integrity and our faith in our electoral system,” added Representative Sapik. “I immediately contacted Campaign and Election Committee Chairman Scott Krug and we will work together on this issue moving forward. Any sort of meetings, penalties, or actions for Douglas County will be made known to the public. That being said, we are all human and can make mistakes. Our job now is to make sure we have safeguards in place to assure this doesn’t happen again.”
