Hi Everyone! I’m State Senator Van Wanggaard, representing the 21st District in Southeastern Wisconsin.

There are two important statewide referendums on this April’s ballot to limit outside influence in the running of our elections.

As you may remember, in 2020 out-of-state billionaires provided over 8 million dollars to 5 Wisconsin cities to quote help them promote safe and reliable voting. In reality, these were government-run voter turnout campaigns financed by California and New York activists. The city of Green Bay actually allowed a former Democratic Party operative to administer the election from their clerk’s office. Racine, my hometown, used the money to purchase a “mobile voting van”, which a court determined was used specifically to turn out Democratic voters. Thankfully, the court ruled that the van was illegal and illegally used.

Administering elections is one of government’s central functions. It must be done in a fair, unbiased manner. These two constitutional amendments ensure that local governments, not out-of-state billionaires from any political persuasion, run our elections.

Because these are proposed constitutional amendments, the questions on the ballot can be confusing, Let me take a few moments to explain them in normal terms.

Question #1 would guarantee that only public funds, not private funds, are used to conduct an election.

Question #2 would guarantee that duly-appointed and elected election officials administer an election, not a third party.

In addition to these constitutional questions, the presidential primary and local non-partisan elections are also on the April ballot. Election Day is April 2nd. Early voting has already begun. No matter how you intend to vote, I encourage you to make sure your voice is heard on April 2nd.
