With students across the state back in the classroom, it’s a good time to consider the status of our education system.

Hi, Senator Rob Hutton here.

Ensuring high academic achievement for all of Wisconsin’s students must continue to be our top priority.

Unfortunately, many districts are still failing to get students proficient in reading, writing and math. Taxpayers deserve strong academic outcomes and sound fiscal stewardship coming from our schools.

Wisconsin is fortunate to have many high performing public, choice and private schools. Their student achievement should be recognized and applauded.

And there is legislative progress impacting education as well. A bill authored by Senator Duey Stroebel is a major overhaul of early reading instruction.

Literacy is the core of further learning, so this will be transformational for students statewide. Certain districts have incorporated similar literacy initiatives with early signs of real success.

Other Republican-led education bills are gaining bipartisan support and will be brought forward in the 2025 legislative session.

In addition to these needed reforms, we must also continue to support options for parents so they can place their children in schools that demonstrate the best outcomes.

Wisconsin can boast of having the finest teachers in the country. Let’s continue to honor them and support our students in their pursuit of a world class education.

Success in preparing the next generation will lead to a more prosperous state for all Wisconsinites.
