EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. — Today, the Wisconsin American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) announced its endorsement of Rebecca Cooke in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District. The AFL-CIO, the largest federation of unions in the country, cited Cooke’s working-class background and proven commitment to Wisconsin working families.
“The Wisconsin AFL-CIO is proud to endorse Rebecca Cooke in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District. In Congress, Rebecca Cooke will support new organizing and strong unions so we can build an economy that works for all of us. She is a strong supporter of the Protecting the Right to Organize Act so we can update our labor law to empower workers. She will fight for fair trade policy that prioritizes local jobs and workers. Rebecca Cooke is the best choice to represent Wisconsin working families in Congress,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO.
“Growing up in a working-class family, I know firsthand the impact policies have on everyday people and communities across our region. Derrick Van Orden is at the center of the problem as politicians put big corporate special interests and profits over the people they’re supposed to serve. In Congress, I’ll work to create pathways to good union jobs, support the PRO Act to empower workers to bargain for fairer wages, better benefits, and safer workplaces, and fight for pro-worker trade policy to level the playing field for Wisconsin. I’m proud to earn labor’s support and will always be a strong ally for working people in Congress,” said Cooke.
Momentum continues to build for Cooke’s campaign following her decisive win in last week’s primary in which she won 17 of 19 counties, including the district’s smaller, rural counties by a 2:1 margin. Wisconsin’s Third District tops the list of most competitive congressional races nationally with Cooke set to take on vulnerable extremist Derrick Van Orden in November.
