[Madison, Wis.] – Oct. 2, 2024 – Wisconsin’s public school students are supported by dedicated public servants who advocate for their best interests. Join us in recognizing these passionate locally elected leaders during Wisconsin School Board Week from Oct. 6-12.

“Their leadership shows students that hard work and perseverance can lead to success, and that their potential is boundless,” says WASB President Mike Humke, who thanked the state’s school board members with a personalized video. “Their influence is profound, and their commitment is crucial for shaping a brighter future for all.”

Gov. Tony Evers commended this influence in his Wisconsin School Board Week proclamation, recognizing the important role school board members “play as advocates for public education and as essential partners in the state’s efforts to ensure that every kid in Wisconsin has access to a high-quality public education.”

This ensures that the next generation of Wisconsinites develops into successful professionals, leaders and citizens. It’s a task that school board members don’t take lightly while overseeing budgets, advocating for children, evaluating superintendents and setting the course for their districts.

More than 2,800 school board members across Wisconsin’s 421 districts make those tough choices while being accountable to taxpayers. To ensure they’re making the best choice for their community, they devote countless hours to studying issues and participating in professional development.

“School board members are one of the most, if not the most, underappreciated public servants,” says Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jill Underly, who released a video thanking school board members. “I’m wholly grateful to you for serving your communities and, most of all, serving our kids and doing what you can to improve their future. You are uniquely positioned to be a powerful and effective advocate for our students.”

Our deepest appreciation is extended to the dedicated men and women who provide the public voice in public education. Please join us in recognizing and thanking your local school board members for their work, leadership and public service during Wisconsin School Board Week.

Let’s continue to share our story, advocate for our students and push public education forward in Wisconsin.
