MADISON, Wis. — Today, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler responded to the shocking news that Banco Azteca, a Mexican bank long reported to be used by drug cartels and cut off by other US banks for that reason, flew $26 million of cash across the US – Mexico Border directly to Eric Hovde’s bank in California.

Wikler questioned Eric Hovde’s shady business dealings with foreign entities like Banco Azteca and called on Hovde to reveal which foreign entities are filling his bank with millions of dollars in deposits.
“The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s report on Hovde’s bank receiving millions of dollars in cash flown across the border is eye-opening, and Eric Hovde has to come clean about which other foreign entities his bank is doing business with,” Wikler said. “If he doesn’t come clean, how can Wisconsinites trust Eric Hovde to work for them instead of for his questionable foreign business partners?”

Eric Hovde does not plan to give up ownership of his $3.2 billion California bank if elected to the Senate, meaning he would be voting on banking regulatory policy while continuing to own and profit from his bank.
