MADISON, Wis. — Today, State Senate candidate Jamie Wall and State Assembly candidate Christy Welch led a roundtable discussion with Brown County residents in Green Bay on how Democrats are fighting to lower costs across the Badger State. From working to expand Medicaid, fully fund Child Care Counts, and build more affordable housing, Democrats are ready to get to work on day one to bring down rising costs while Republicans sit on the sidelines.
As families and working people in Wisconsin struggle to make ends meet, legislative Republicans are holding up nearly $200 million of approved funding, blocking common sense workforce solutions and letting a record surplus sit unused in Madison. While Jim Rafter and Benjamin Franklin would bring more of the same inaction to the Legislature, Jamie Wall, Christy Welch, and other Democrats will fight for real solutions to bring down costs for Green Bay.
State Assembly Candidate Christy Welch: “Democrats across the board are working tirelessly to save money for hardworking Wisconsin families, and Republicans are not. We are here today because we know that families all across Wisconsin, including here in Green Bay, are struggling. We also know that our Republican-controlled legislature is not doing enough to help families and, in many cases, is actually working against lowering costs for folks like us in Green Bay. This is not acceptable.”
State Senate Candidate Jamie Wall: “Republicans in the Legislature love to complain about the issue without actually working to solve it. In fact, they are actively contributing to the problem by holding up nearly $200 million of already-approved funding. […] There is a lot that state government can’t control, like the price of groceries or gas, but I will go to the State Senate and lower costs for all Wisconsinites on what we can control. This includes making housing more affordable, making health care more affordable, and making child care more accessible and affordable. An advantage Democrats have is that we have already introduced a bunch of bills to do just that—but Republicans keep blocking them.”
