MADISON, Wis. — On Friday, State Senate candidate Kris Alfheim and State Assembly candidates Duane Shukoski and Emily Tseffos held a roundtable discussion on women’s reproductive freedom in Wisconsin. They were joined by community members who shared their experiences and perspectives on the importance of protecting women’s reproductive freedom.
Two years ago, the reproductive freedoms and rights of women in Wisconsin and across the country were attacked by Donald Trump’s extremist Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade. While Republicans in Wisconsin’s Legislature support Wisconsin’s inhumane 1849 abortion ban, Democrats are fighting for a woman’s right to have freedom over her own body and reproductive care. Speakers emphasized the need to elect Democrats up and down the ballot and in every corner of Wisconsin to safeguard women’s autonomy here in the Badger State.
See what the speakers had to say, in part, below:
State Senate Candidate Kris Alfheim: “Democrats get it—people don’t want politicians in Madison or anywhere else making their personal health decisions for them. When I am elected to the State Senate, I’ll be proud to work towards restoring women’s access to the reproductive health care they need.”
State Assembly Candidate Emily Tseffos: “Reproductive freedom is not only about women being able to access reproductive health care—it’s also about being able to make the right decision for themselves and for their family, without the government interfering in that deeply personal decision between a woman and her health care provider. Democrats have been fighting to restore these freedoms, while Republicans have fought at every turn to take them away.”
State Assembly Candidate Duane Shukoski: “As a grandfather to two little girls, I want my granddaughters to grow up in a world where they have more protections than generations before them—not less. Men can’t sit on the sidelines of this fight. I am proud to be running as a Democrat who will vote to restore my granddaughters’ right to make their own health care decisions.”
