MADISON, Wis. — As Derrick Van Orden desperately tries to distract from his abysmal record three weeks from Election Day, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to revisit some of Van Orden’s most extreme positions.
Derrick Van Orden has no problem telling people what he thinks. And in the wake of two hospital and 19 clinic closures in western Wisconsin, he thinks the solution to Wisconsin’s ongoing health care crisis is repealing the Affordable Care Act, stripping access to medical care from hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites.
In fact, the only health care position listed on Derrick Van Orden’s website is ensuring “Obamacare is fully repealed.”
Derrick Van Orden’s solution to Wisconsin’s ongoing health care crisis is to gut coverage for working Wisconsinites and return to the days of insurance companies denying care for those with preexisting conditions. Donald Trump claims to have “concepts of a plan” for health care, Derrick Van Orden offers even less than that.
Here’s a reminder of where Derrick Van Orden stands on health care:
- As hospitals were closing in western Wisconsin, Derrick Van Orden spoke out against expanding Medicaid, saying “throwing more money on a sinking ship is not the right answer.”
- Derrick Van Orden’s opposition to Medicaid Expansion comes despite data showing that being a Medicaid expansion state decreased the likelihood of rural hospitals like those in the Chippewa Valley closing by more than half.
- Derrick Van Orden supports the full repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which would threaten affordable health insurance coverage for over 266,000 Wisconsinites who are currently enrolled in an ACA insurance plan.
- Van Orden fully endorses Donald Trump, whose health care policy amounts to “concepts of a plan.”
