MADISON, Wis. — After just a few years in Congress, Bryan Steil has changed his tune on government shutdowns and has decided that he no longer needs to fulfill the basic responsibilities of his job by funding the government.
SHOT: At his 2019 swearing-in ceremony, Bryan Steil described the Republican-led government shutdown as “totally unacceptable” and that he was focused on “com[ing] together to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
CHASER: Bryan Steil decided that coming together to fund the government in 2024 isn’t that important after all. Earlier this month on Fox News, Bryan Steil said “I think all Republicans are willing to […] shut the government down if we had to,” and said he “[didn’t] think anybody should be afraid of a shutdown.” Steil affirmed his commitment to shutting the government down if the MAGA-endorsed SAVE Act is not attached to the bipartisan Continuing Resolution.
