Upon his retirement announcement, the 3rd CD Democrats of Wisconsin would like to thank Governor Tony Evers for his years of service to the state of Wisconsin. We are sad to lose him as Governor, but we will forever be inspired by his compassionate leadership and his commitment to all Wisconsinites.

As Governor, he spent every year attempting to work with a hostile, Republican-controlled Congress who did their best to undermine him at every turn. Yet, his accomplishments are too numerous to adequately detail. Increased funding for schools, mental health services and a recalculation of the shared revenue model that brought more money to local governments are just a few of his achievements. And yes, he fixed the damn roads.

As the top Democratic in the state, Tony Evers oversaw a rejuvenation of the party. He worked tirelessly to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot. His efforts paved the way for redistricting the GOP-gerrymandered maps, which led to fairer elections in the state and more bipartisanship in the legislature.

Says William Garcia, Chair of the 3rd CD Democrats of Wisconsin, “Tony Evers has always put the needs of working families first. He focused his efforts on ensuring young people, families, union workers and the working class got a fair shake. He protected our access to quality healthcare, abortions, medicine and mental health care. And he prevented the worst impulses of Republican officials who wanted to cut services to working people while giving tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy.”

Governor Evers leaves the Democratic Party in excellent shape going into the 2026 election, having helped build a bench of strong Democratic leaders ready to take the reins.
