MADISON, Wis. — Rebecca Bradley, the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s most vitriolic and extreme justice, doesn’t just carry the right-wing’s ideological water on the bench, she also takes a lot of vacations on their dime. As detailed in a news report today, since getting her political crony appointment to the state high court, Bradley has taken over $52,000 in junkets to luxury resorts funded by right-wing legal advocacy groups and foundations.
A Better Wisconsin Together Deputy Director Mike Browne commented, “Rebecca Bradley is as extreme in taking right-wing funded junkets as she is in pushing their agenda on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.”
As reported:
Since being appointed to the court by former Republican Gov. Scott Walker, Bradley has reported that several conservative groups or legal centers have picked up nearly $52,000 in lodging, meals, airfare and other expenses so she could attend 20 out-of-state conferences and seminars since 2015.
The story continues:
In 2023 alone, Bradley’s excursions took her to conferences at The Royal Hawaiian resort in Honolulu, the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska, and the Henderson Beach Resort in Destin, Florida. A Virginia-based legal center footed the $12,000 cost for Bradley to attend those three events.
Bradley, an outspoken conservative, has also had her expenses covered to go to seminars in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Park City, Utah; and Laguna Beach, California, records show. In 2019, she even attended a three-day “Symposium on the Law and Economics of Marijuana Legalization” in Denver. Marijuana is not legal in Wisconsin.
Bradley has been an extreme right-wing justice, taking positions that would have allowed abortion to be banned in Wisconsin under a law from 1849, let corporate polluters escape accountability, helped right-wing politicians try to overturn election results if they don’t like them, and closed court proceedings and reduced transparency.
Browne concluded, “Prior to her judicial appointments, Rebecca Bradley authored abhorrent writings on topics ranging from contraceptive access to same-sex relationships. Her recent and continuing vitriol and extremism on the bench suggest even tens of thousands of dollars in subsidized junkets at luxurious resorts hasn’t mellowed her.”
