NASHVILLE, TN—June 12, 2025—The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) proudly announces that the Neville Public Museum is the recipient of an Award of Excellence for Telling Our Stories: LGBTQ+ Voices of Northeast Wisconsin. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards, now in its 80th year, is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history.
Telling Our Stories: LGBTQ+ Voices of Northeast Wisconsin (February 10 – November 3, 2024) explored the vibrant and diverse history of the LGBTQ+ community in northeast Wisconsin. The exhibit, created in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) Archives, drew from their Our Voices collection, which is made up of an ongoing oral history project and artifacts from the LGBTQ+ community. Telling Our Stories presented significant objects and oral histories from the LGBTQ+ community while fostering connections by being comprehensive in scope. It promoted dialogue and understanding between communities and generations. Visitors experienced a dynamic and inclusive representation of regional history that they may not have known about.
This year, AASLH confers 54 national awards honoring people, projects, exhibits, and publications. The winners represent the best in the field and provide leadership for the future of state and local history. Announcing the AASLH 2025 Leadership in History Award Winners – AASLH
