Regarding Government Shut Down

Earlier this week, for the 11th time, you joined most of your fellow Senate Democrats and blocked legislation to
reopen and fund the federal government. As a result, the federal government has remained closed for over 20
days now, the third longest shutdown in U.S. history. I urge you to join your Democrat colleges Senator
Fetterman (PA) and Cortez-Masto (Nevada), and Independent Senator King (Maine) and end the shutdown by
voting for a clean continuing resolution.

We are a heavy civil construction contractor and currently working on a $6,500,000 Federal Contract with the
US Department of Agriculture. We are currently experiencing significant hardships by not being able to work
on this project due to the government shutdown. We have had to lay off five employees this week and
anticipate we will be laying off another five next week. Our work is dependent upon the weather and missing
the nice October weather is going to have large impact on our company. We have around 40 employees and not
being able to work on this project is causing a negative effect on our company and the employees who work for
us. The government employees will be paid for the time they miss due to the shutdown, but what do I tell our
employees who are missing a paycheck this week and no one will be paying them for the time they are off.
This is our prime season and we have about six weeks of good weather left to make a good paycheck before the
weather turns against us and our hours and paychecks go down until spring.

The decision to shut down the government has a real economic impact on Wisconsin residents. I’m asking you
to open the government up and allow us to go to work. When the 12 th vote to re-open the federal government is
up for a vote, please vote to pass the clean continuing resolution to extend funding, ensuring the government
reopens and critical work can resume to support our economy, small businesses and national security.

Sincerely,
Roger Thimm
