Congressional Candidates for Wisconsin’s 3rd District Laura Benjamin and Emily Berge Unite in

Call for Accountability at Pearl Street Brewery Event

LA CROSSE, WIS. – Earlier today, Laura Benjamin and fellow Democratic candidate Emily Berge joined forces at a grassroots protest outside Pearl Street Brewery in La Crosse. The demonstration, organized by local activists and supported by both campaigns, called onincumbent Rep. Derrick Van Orden to step up and meet his constituents face-to-face in an open public forum.

The event saw a turnout of more than 40 community members, who gathered from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. to voice their concerns and demand more direct engagement from their current representative. Both Benjamin and Berge highlighted the importance of elected officials being present and accountable to the people they serve.

“It’s time that Derrick Van Orden’s constituents actually saw him in person,” said Benjamin. “He needs to show up for a town hall and not just rely on private, invite-only events. Our district needs public forums where he can have real conversations with the community.”

Both candidates also noted the absence of their primary competitor, Rebecca Cooke, underscoring that standing up publicly is essential in the fight for this seat. “We were surprised Rebecca didn’t join us,” Benjamin added, “but Emily and I are united in making sure voters know we will always show up and speak out.”
