Congressional Candidate for Wisconsin’s 3rd District offers Rep. Van Orden the opportunity to host event in Chippewa Falls

EAU CLAIRE, WIS. – Laura Benjamin, small business owner, former Eau Claire City Council member, and Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, will host a public town hall in Chippewa Falls today, Monday, July 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Roger Meier Shelter in Irvine Park, 125 Bridgewater Ave in Chippewa Falls. The event is free and open to the public.

This is Benjamin’s third town hall, and she has again extended an invitation to Rep. Derrick Van Orden to replace her as host, so he can hear directly from constituents in a live town hall environment.

“Town halls are a vital part of the democratic process in which leaders listen and dialogue with their constituents,” said Benjamin. “Online, pre-screened town halls don’t paint the full picture of the concerns of the 3rd Congressional District, so I’ve invited Rep. Van Orden to attend and speak with those he was elected to represent to fully understand the issues in our communities.”

This is part of Benjamin’s district-wide town hall series focused on restoring accountability and reconnecting residents with their government. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak, ask questions, and raise concerns in an open-mic format.

Benjamin, who announced her campaign in April, is running on a bold agenda that includes passing Medicare for All, free and funded public education at all levels, getting money out of politics, instituting living wages to fight the affordability crisis, and reforming the tax code to prioritize working families over billionaires and mega corporations.

“People feel abandoned by politicians, because they only show up for wealthy donors, not for everyday people.” Benjamin said. “I’ll continue to show up for the people of the 3rd Congressional District, and work to win this seat back for everyday Americans instead of the mega-rich.”
