MADISON, WIS. — Juliana is a caregiver, community organizer, former alder, and proud Queer Black Democratic Socialist running as a firebrand advocate with a track record of getting things done.
Juliana is firmly rooted in advocating for Madison’s working class. During the Black Lives Matter movement, she stepped up as a student activist and cofounded the Madison BIPOC Coalition. At 21 years old, she was elected to the Madison Common Council, where she spearheaded the legalization of duplexes citywide, passed over 1000 units of affordable housing, invested millions into the undocumented and homeless communities, delivered fair municipal maps, and stood up for Palestinians, and Madison’s Black, Brown, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ communities. Now, as a state employee, she knows we need our state electeds to step up as fighters and doers.
“I will never back down from fighting for the people I love and the community I believe in,” said Juliana.
Juliana’s passion is drawn from personal experience with systemic failures. Her mom was a nurse. Her dad is a chef, retired restaurant owner, and a veteran. Three years ago her dad beat a 6 out of 100 odds of survival from cardiac arrest thanks to first responders and healthcare workers at the Meriter and VA hospital. But his life came at the cost of a $500,000 medical bill and an eviction from a greedy landlord. “No family should have to endure that,” said Juliana.
“The system is RIGGED against Madison. Rents in our city have skyrocketed 40% in the past 5 years. Many young people are locked out of homeownership opportunities. MMSD schools are suffering. Madison’s working class is struggling everyday to scrape by. Meanwhile, Madisonians pay some of the highest taxes in the state, just for Republicans to hand out our money to billionaires and megacorporations.”
“We deserve more than the do nothing, stand for no one, bow down to billionaires politics that has corrupted our state. Our campaign is a community-based movement with a vision, a backbone, and a plan to deliver for working people.”
As your state representative, Juliana will bring the people to the people’s house. She will fight to guarantee an affordable home for everyone, raise the minimum wage to $25 by 2030, deliver no cost childcare and healthcare, pass Healthy School Meals for All, fully fund public education, and get a fair deal for Madison’s working class.
