Madison, WI — In just 100 days in office, President Trump’s tariffs, executive orders, and all-out assault on clean energy have put Wisconsin’s clean energy boom at risk. New data released today from Climate Power shows that 95 clean energy projects have been threatened, delayed, or canceled nationally since Trump took office, representing $71.24 billion in investment and 62,554 jobs.

In Wisconsin, $2.5 billion in investments have been threatened under Trump’s war on clean energy. The investments were from a Department of Energy award for a Wisconsin Electric Power Company project, which would provide over 1,650 megawatts of utility-scale renewable power generation and energy storage. Repealing the clean energy tax credits will lead to more lost jobs, more project closures, and higher energy costs for Wisconsinites. Since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, Wisconsin has seen $5.44 billion in new clean energy investment, and 2,732 new clean energy jobs– 96% of those jobs in Republican districts. Now, those jobs and these investments are under threat.

“The Trump Administration’s attacks on clean energy investments threaten to reverse Wisconsin’s progress in building a sustainable and equitable economy,” said David Crowley, Milwaukee County Executive. “Gutting these investments risks thousands of jobs and over $5 billion in investments to our energy infrastructure. Clean energy isn’t just about protecting our environment, it’s about lowering bills for Wisconsinites, strengthening our workforce, and creating made-in-America energy.”

In addition to creating new jobs, clean energy saves Wisconsinites money: the transition to clean energy will reduce U.S. electricity prices by between 20 and 80% by 2040. Trump’s proposed tariffs, on the other hand, will cost Wisconsinites money: studies show that households will suffer a loss of $3,800 on average, while utility companies will likely raise rates for customers.

Prior to Trump’s election, the United States was experiencing the largest boom in factory construction investment in American history, spurred in large part by the clean energy tax credits. However, since the beginning of the Trump Administration, that growth has begun to reverse. If the Trump Administration succeeds in repealing the clean energy tax credits, it would be a disaster for American energy independence and could lead to billions in lost investments in Wisconsin and even more canceled projects.
