WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), member of the House Labor Caucus and Chair of the International Workers’ Rights Caucus, endorsed Ben Wikler to be the next chair of the Democratic National Committee. In a statement, Representative Schakowsky cited Wikler’s ability to organize across communities and deliver historic resources to the fight for working people.
“The future of the values and rights we hold dear could well be decided by who will lead the Democratic National Committee. I’m endorsing Ben Wikler to be our next DNC chair because he understands that people-powered organizing can make or break elections up and down the ballot. Whether it’s record grassroots fundraising or recruiting record numbers of volunteers, I’ve seen Ben deliver the resources, talent, and organizational prowess that the Democratic Party needs to unite, fight, and win in this crucial moment. I am proud to support Ben Wikler for DNC chair, and I encourage all DNC voting members – especially from Illinois – to join me.”
This morning, Wikler released his platform to “Unite, Fight, and Win” as DNC Chair. The platform includes key commitments to organized labor, as well as plans to establish year-round coalitions staff, resource an “Innovation Department,” develop 57 unique state strategies, audit all consultant contracts, and conduct a 2024 post-analysis to determine our next steps as a party.
Representative Schakowsky joins groups and leaders across the country and spanning the spectrum of the Democratic Party who have united to endorse Wikler for DNC Chair, including Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lavora Barnes, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, Third Way, MoveOn, and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.
