EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. – Today, the National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare PAC endorsed Rebecca Cooke for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District on the 90th anniversary of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signing the Social Security Act into law.
“Every senior in Western Wisconsin deserves the opportunity to retire with dignity and I will never vote to weaken Social Security or Medicare—these are earned benefits,” Rebecca Cooke said. “When Congressman Derrick Van Orden voted for the Republican Mega Bill, he supported massive tax breaks for the ultra-rich that explode the deficit by more than $4 trillion, putting our country’s fiscal health—and the promise of Social Security and Medicare—at risk. President Trump’s own Treasury Secretary called this bill ‘a backdoor for privatizing Social Security.’ Seniors paid into Social Security and Medicaid over a lifetime of hard work and it is shameful to try to take away the benefits they’ve earned.”
“On behalf of the thousands of Wisconsinites we represent in the Third District, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare PAC is proud to endorse Rebecca Cooke’s campaign for Congress,” said Max Richtman, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare PAC Board. “This week marks the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act becoming law, so it is only fitting that we endorse a candidate who will be a champion for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. A small business owner, nonprofit leader, and waitress, Rebecca understands firsthand how these programs are essential in keeping seniors secure, healthy, and engaged in their communities. WI-03 will be one of the most important races this cycle in determining if a pro-senior majority gets elected to Congress. By electing Rebecca Cooke, voters have the opportunity to send a loud and clear message to Washington: seniors will not stand for any politician who double-crosses them.”
The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM) was founded in 1982 by former Congressman James Roosevelt, son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to protect, preserve, promote, and ensure the financial security, health, and the well being of current and future generations of maturing Americans.
Rebecca is endorsed by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, 15 Members of Congress, State Senator Brad Pfaff, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Councils 7 & 82, the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation (SMART) Unions, UFCW Local 1437, the Blue Dog Coalition, the New Dem Action Fund, Elect Democratic Women, and EMILY’s List.
