EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. – This week, nonpartisan election forecaster Cook Political Report shifted its rating of Wisconsin’s Third District to “Toss Up,” noting Rebecca Cooke’s strength and momentum in their coverage of the race.

  • “Cooke’s early momentum, coupled with encouraging results for Democrats in this month’s state Supreme Court race, moves this race from the Lean Republican column to Toss Up.”
  • “..the 15-point swing between Kamala Harris’ margin and Crawford’s margin in the 3rd District should be a warning sign for Van Orden.”
  • “Regardless of what the national environment looks like next year, Van Orden is in a different category than a generic Republican. Last year’s election results show that he’s turned off a significant segment of Trump voters in his district.”

“While Derrick Van Orden puts his extreme agenda first and threatens Wisconsin families’ pocketbooks, we wake up every morning focused on fighting for working-class people,” said Cooke. “We are building a people-powered movement that is going to bring real representation and results back to western Wisconsin.”

In a clear sign of Van Orden’s vulnerability and the strength of the Cooke campaign, this week President Trump endorsed Derrick Van Orden alongside three other Members at risk of losing reelection.

Last quarter, Cooke announced a $1 million raise in the first twenty days of the race. The Cooke campaign received financial support from over 15,000 individual donors with an average contribution of less than $100.

Momentum continues to build behind Cooke’s campaign as she has also earned support from organizations, including  EMILYs List, Elect Democratic Women, International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers (SMART) Union, UFCW Local 1473, farmers, 15 Members of Congress, small business owners, and working people across WI-03.
