EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. – Today, the Wisconsin Laborers’ District Council, representing more than 9,200 union members across the state, endorsed Rebecca Cooke for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District.
“Working families need a fighter in Washington who puts their needs first,” Rebecca Cooke said. “I’m proud to earn the endorsement of the hard-working men and women of the Wisconsin Laborers’ District Council and I’m going to work every day to ensure that their members get better wages and more economic opportunities. This campaign is about bringing everyday Wisconsinites together to stand up to the special interests that are rigging the system. Derrick Van Orden already picked his side, voting for massive tax breaks for the ultra rich that will explode the deficit by more than $4 trillion. The people of Western Wisconsin know I’m on their side.”
“Rebecca Cooke comes from a union family, and we need her perspective to fight for not just LIUNA and other union members, but for all working families,” said Kent Miller, President/Business Manager of the Wisconsin Laborers’ District Council. “Rebecca Cooke understands that we need to invest in our workforce and create more opportunities for people to learn a trade by promoting registered apprenticeships, protecting our right to organize a union, and creating job opportunities to build our state’s infrastructure and grow our economy.”
The Wisconsin Laborers’ District Council is an affiliation of five Laborer local unions, representing over 9,200 construction craft laborers across Wisconsin, and is part of the over 530,000 members of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA).
Rebecca is endorsed by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin, 15 Members of Congress, State Senator Brad Pfaff, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Councils 7 & 82, the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation (SMART) Union, UFCW Local 1473, End Citizens United, the Blue Dog Coalition, the New Dem Action Fund, Elect Democratic Women, EMILY’s List and the National Coalition to Protect Social Security and Medicare PAC. She’s also garnered the support of a broad coalition of farmers, small business owners, educators and healthcare workers across western Wisconsin. View the full list of endorsers here.
