MADISON, Wis. – In case you missed it, Elon Musk is spending big to buy offextreme politician Brad Schimel, flooding the airwaves with a round of false and negative TV ads to prop up his campaign. But this isn’t the first time Shady Schimel has cashed in — he’s been selling himself to the highest bidder for years.
Wisconsinites have long seen Brad Schimel’s shadiness and corruption at play. While running for Attorney General in 2014, Schimel gave a plea deal to Andrew Lambrecht, a man caught with thousands of files of child pornography — featuring children as young as six — after the predator’s lawyer donated thousands of dollars to Schimel’s campaign.
Lambrecht’s lawyer even wrote Schimel and thanked him for the “professional courtesies” he had extended.
And while the opioid epidemic devastated Wisconsin communities, Schimel looked the other way to the tune of $17,000 in pharmaceutical industry donations, and refused to join a bipartisan lawsuit against opioid manufacturers.
“Elon Musk may be cutting bigger checks now — but Brad Schimel has a long record of being bought off for favors,” said campaign spokesman Derrick Honeyman. “Shady Schimel gave a sweet plea deal to a child predator after getting cash from the perp’s lawyer to fund his campaign, and Schimel looked the other way as Big Pharma stuffed his campaign pockets and devastated Wisconsin communities with addictive drugs. Brad Schimel has a long record of begging for dirty cash, and now Elon is the latest to answer his pleas.”
