Madison – After a gunman impersonating a police officer shot and killed Minnesota State Senator Melissa Hortman and her husband and shot State Senator John Hoffman and his wife in their homes, Dane County Executive Melissa Agard released the following statement:
“This horrifying act of political violence targeting two dedicated public servants is the latest act in the rise of political violence in our country. It should be condemned by everyone. We cannot continue to scroll past each of these acts and just wait for the next one. There must be action.
I hold my friend Melissa and her family in my heart – and her colleague Senator Hoffman and his family in my heart. Melissa was hard working and kind. The very best of who citizens want in public service.
Political violence and hate are a threat to all of us and our democracy. Justice must be swiftly served.”
