WISCONSIN – California’s Prop 50 has become a centerpoint in the discussion around redistricting that has taken American states by storm in the build up to the 2026 midterm elections. A recently released ad in favor of Prop 50 features President Obama stating “Republicans want to steal enough seats in Congress to rig the next election.”
Continued rhetoric like this, from Republicans and Democrats alike, continues to fan the flames of distrust around our election integrity. Regardless of position in regards to Prop 50 and other redistricting attempts, we should all be cognizant of the impact language like this has on voter trust in elections.
The bipartisan board of DDP-WI released the following statement in response to this newly released ad.
“We should hold all our elected officials, and especially our chief executives to the highest possible standards. The rhetoric focused on rigging or stealing elections is harmful to our election processes, be it from Democrats talking about Prop 50 in California and Texas redistricting, or Republicans discussing the impact of state Supreme Court races and falsely proclaiming machine tabulators as unreliable. Those elected to the highest positions in our states and our nation have the ultimate responsibility of giving the people faith in our system, not using the election system and perceived flaws for personal political gain.”
