At the Wisconsin Republican Convention this weekend, Republican delegates supported a resolution calling to enforce Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion law… just as Derrick Van Orden “called for unity among Republicans.”
The first thing Van Orden’s “unified” Republican delegates are up to? Chomping at the bit to ban abortion, as the 1849 law – previously interpreted as banning abortion without exceptions for rape or incest – stands before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Reminder: 78% of Wisconsinites, including 57% of Republicans, do not support criminalizing abortion.
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“If Derrick Van Orden’s ‘unified’ Republican Party had its way, they’d ban abortion in Wisconsin with no exceptions for rape or incest. Van Orden owns this extreme stance, which Wisconsinites reject – just like they’ll reject Van Orden next November.”
