DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement in response to Governor Tony Evers announcing his retirement:

“Many of us got involved in politics to make a difference in people’s lives. From his decades-long record of successfully bringing people together to his tireless fight for working families across Wisconsin, Governor Tony Evers has certainly made a difference.

“Governor Evers never shied away from standing up for what’s right. He successfully funded public schools for the next four hundred years, successfully fought to overturn Wisconsin’s abortion ban, cut taxes for working families by $1.5 billion, and secured fair legislative maps for the people of Wisconsin. Governor Evers has shown us time and again what leadership looks like, fighting for our values with bold ideas and demonstrating what is possible when you make families and kids your guiding light.

“After five decades of public service — serving as a school principal, superintendent, and eventually governor — we thank Governor Evers and his family for their service to Wisconsin and wish him nothing but the best as he heads into a well-deserved and hard-earned retirement.”
