MADISON — The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction today announced the recipients of the Recovery High School Planning Grant Program.

Established under 2023 Wisconsin Act 72, the program aims to support the creation of new recovery high schools across the state. The funding initiative provides resources for developing recovery high schools – dedicated environments where students in recovery can thrive academically and personally. These schools are designed to meet the unique needs of students overcoming substance use and mental health challenges that often coexist with substance use.

Four planning grants have been awarded to the School District of Ashland, the School District of Beloit, the Manitowoc Public School District, and the Norris School District. Each recipient will be awarded $75,000 in grant funding to assist in planning and developing recovery-focused high schools. The grant performance period runs from March 1, 2025, through June 30, 2025. These funds will support the design and implementation of strategies aimed at fostering healing, resilience, and academic success for students in recovery.

Eligible applicants for this grant program included public and private schools, as well as nonprofit organizations. More details on the program can be found on the DPI’s Act 72 webpage.
