MADISON — Dr. Jill Underly, Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction, issued a statement today honoring the service of Dr. Jon Bales, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA). The statement follows today’s announcement by the Association’s Board of Directors that Dr. Bales will be retiring at the end of the 2025-26 school year after 13 years of leadership.
“I want to extend my deepest congratulations to Dr. Jon Bales on his well-earned retirement. I’ve had the privilege of knowing Jon for 12 of his 13 years as Executive Director of WASDA and served alongside him on the WASDA Board of Directors. His leadership has been nothing short of exceptional.
“Jon has been a tireless advocate for public schools and a true champion for district leaders—always focused on strengthening instruction and securing the resources our schools need. He leaves WASDA stronger than ever, and his steady presence, deep integrity, and quiet wisdom will be deeply missed.
“Jon is also a cherished friend, and I wish him all the best as he enters this next chapter. His legacy in Wisconsin education is enduring, and I’m grateful to have worked alongside him.”
