A statement from Jill Jacklitz, Executive Director of Disability Rights Wisconsin, on tonight’s Joint Committee on Finance vote on the Department of Public Instruction budget:

“While the motion passed this evening by the Joint Committee on Finance would provide a small increase in special education funding, a 37.5 percent reimbursement rate for special education services would keep Wisconsin’s rate as the second worst in the nation. Wisconsin students with disabilities deserve investment in their education, and Wisconsin school districts and communities deserve adequate funding to support special education – and all – students. As the state budget process continues, Disability Rights Wisconsin urges the full Assembly and Senate to support a 60 percent reimbursement rate for special education funding.”
