Trump warned Americans they’d feel “pain” as a result of his economic agenda. From today’s disappointing February jobs report, to crashing consumer confidence, and mass public and private sector layoffs across states, Trump is making good on that threat. In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“A month on the job, Donald Trump has been a disaster for Wisconsin. Economists are sounding the alarm on Trump’s unpopular and expensive agenda, warning he could ‘reignite inflation’ and ship Wisconsin jobs overseas. As Wisconsin families and small businesses brace for pain, this latest jobs report proves that Trump only cares about himself and his billionaire backers — not working families.”

In this week’s Joint Address to Congress, Donald Trump doubled down on his assertion that Americans could feel economic “pain” thanks to his reckless policies. Recent economic reports confirm Trump is following through on that threat for Wisconsinites.

Business Insider: “The job market was just a touch cooler than expected in February, as new job creation clocked in at 151,000, below expectations, and unemployment unexpectedly increased to 4.1%.”

CBS: “Employers across the U.S. added 151,000 jobs in February, below economists’ forecasts and pointing to a slowdown in the labor market amid signs of slowing economic growth.”

ADP National Employment Report: “Private employers added 77,000 jobs in February

“Hiring slowed to the smallest level of gains since July, with trade and transportation, health care and education, and information showing job losses. Small business employment also fell.”

Under Trump’s watch, private sector and public layoffs have jumped, leaving many Wisconsinites jobless.

  • CNN: “US employers cut more jobs last month than any February since 2009”

  • Since Donald Trump began his second term, over 27,000 Wisconsinites have filed for unemployment.

  • Since Donald Trump began his second term, there have been five mass layoffs in Wisconsin.

  • Donald Trump fired scores of employees at VA hospitals across Wisconsin, including a disabled veteran and another veteran who was one day away from receiving civil service protections.

Even before today’s jobs report, Donald Trump’s reckless policies had already had devastating consequences for Wisconsin.

  • Trump’s spending freeze has jeopardized over $60 million in grants aimed at lowering energy costs in low- and moderate-income communities in Wisconsin.

  • Trump’s USAID freeze disrupted business for Wisconsin farmers who were not able to prepare for the growing season due to uncertainty over federal purchases.
