Gov. Tony Evers told reporters it’s “very possible” he’ll take executive action to soften the blow of the federal government shutting down, particularly when it comes to impacts on health care.

The Dem guv also said during a stop in Brown Deer yesterday that he was “absolutely” comfortable with Dems holding out for an extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits in exchange for agreeing to an extension of funding for the federal government.

Evers argued it shouldn’t be a “big thing” for Republicans to accept.

“There’s all sorts of other things if they’re looking for cuts they can take a look at,” Evers said “There’s nothing more important than your health, and I think what the Democrats are asking for is not extraordinarily difficult. It’s just a matter of making sure that people that are on Obamacare that they get the services that they need.”

Evers spoke with reporters as he touted the full repeal of the state sales tax on utility bills. He didn’t offer any specifics on what executive actions he may take, saying there are some things “that are so important that we just can’t wait until December or January.”

“If there’s something that is affecting people’s physical health and we need to use some of our resources here at the state level to make sure people are not put in danger, that’s low-hanging fruit from my vantage point. We have to keep people safe and healthy,” Evers said.

The guv also knocked President Donald Trump for posting an AI video that showed House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., in a sombrero and a mustache.

“I mean, he’s not taking it seriously, obviously,” Evers said.  “If you have time enough to do that, you’re not doing your job.”
