MADISON, Wis. – Family Friendly Wisconsin released the following statement today, commending Democrats in the state legislature for introducing legislation to invest in child care providers and teachers.

Brita Olsen, Family Friendly Wisconsin State Director:

“Today, Democrats in the state legislature demonstrated their commitment to working families, which Republicans on the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) have failed to do. By introducing legislation to invest $480 million in child care provider and teacher wages, Democrats are listening to the needs of educators and working families.

“The bill introduction comes two weeks after Republicans on JFC voted – without explanation – to strike Gov. Tony Evers’ budget proposal for child care from the 2025-27 biennial budget. Without state funding for child care, it is estimated that nearly one-quarter of providers across the state will close their doors.

“Wisconsin is one of six states that does not invest in child care, and it is past time we change that. Family Friendly Wisconsin encourages Republicans in the state legislature to come to the table and deliver meaningful relief for providers and families by investing in child care and our economy.”
