Franklin, WI – Forward Latino, a national non-profit, non-partisan service and advocacy organization headquartered in Franklin, Wisconsin and with affiliates and members in 29 states issued the following statement regarding Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers veto of AB 308 and SB 311.

Statement by National President Darryl Morin:

“Sadly, certain members of the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate used taxpayer resources to pass a bill that has no lawful impact on our state. It was crafted with the implicit intent to mislead voters, divide Wisconsinites and promote hate.

The bill claims to block public funds from providing healthcare for undocumented immigrants, yet federal law already prohibits such funding. The bill’s true purpose is to promote the false narrative that undocumented immigrants receive taxpayer-funded healthcare. It is no coincidence this is occurring as the battle over affordable healthcare continues in Congress.

At a time when families are struggling with rising food, housing, healthcare and transportation costs, this kind of misinformation is especially dangerous, as we continue to see individuals with a fragile grasp on reality act out violently. Their actions driven in part by such falsehoods.

Forward Latino applauds Governor Tony Evers for vetoing this propaganda bill and urges the Legislature to focus its precious time and taxpayer funded resources on the real needs of Wisconsin.”
