Franklin, WI – Darryl Morin, National President of Forward Latino, a national non-profit, non- partisan service and advocacy organization headquartered in Franklin, Wisconsin issued the following statement following reports of a proposed immigration detention facility being built in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

National President Darryl Morin issued the following statement:

“As we continue to serve victims of hate crimes in Wisconsin, field calls from families fearful of sending their children to school or going to a hospital when in urgent need of medical care, we are actively monitoring a number of states for immigration related construction projects. This includes Wisconsin. During a recent search, Forward Latino received information on an immigration detention facility being planned for the City of Milwaukee with a capacity to have up to 500 beds. We are actively working with our representatives at the federal, state, county and local levels to confirm this information. We hope to be able to release our findings in the coming week.

Regarding the recent statement put forth by Alderwoman Larresa Taylor, Forward Latino is in communication with the Alderwoman and other elected city officials to learn more about the project and how it was allowed to progress this far without any
community input or notification.

Forward Latino will continue fighting to defend the human dignity of all and to prevent family separation.”
