“Even the most progressive governors in Wisconsin’s history refused to misuse the partial veto power to increase spending”
Delafield, Wis. – IRG Action Fund’s General Counsel, Jake Curtis, will testify in front of the Wisconsin Senate’s Committee on Licensing, Regulatory Reform, State and Federal Affairs at 11:00 AM on Thursday on Senate Bill 389, legislation to reverse the 400 year spending increase.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Governor Evers’s recent partial veto created a 400 year property tax increase by turning “2024-25” into “2425”. The Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld this maneuver in LeMieux v. Evers, giving the governor sweeping authority to rewrite legislation with the simple stroke of a pen, undermining the legislature and Wisconsin voters.
THE QUOTE:
“Even the most progressive governors in Wisconsin’s history refused to misuse the partial veto power to increase spending,” said Jake Curtis. “They understood that the power to tax and spend belongs to the people’s legislature, not just the stroke of the governor’s pen.”
WATCH THE HEARING:
The hearing will be held at 11:00AM in the Wisconsin State Capitol and streamed live on Wisconsin Eye.
