RACINE— The Joint Committee on Finance Democrats continued their 2025-27 biennial budget listening tour in Racine, where dozens of community members spoke in support of Governor Evers’ historic investment in public education.

From parents and educators to students and local leaders, the message was clear: Wisconsinites want strong public schools, fully funded classrooms, and a state budget that invests in those values. This response is in stark contrast to the growing threats at the federal level, where Republicans, led by Elon Musk and Donald Trump, are pushing to dismantle the Department of Education.

In response to this feedback, the Democratic members of the Joint Committee on Finance issued the following statement:

“We’re grateful to everyone who came to Racine to share their stories and speak up for our kids. Governor Evers’ budget restores funding to our public schools by making the largest investment in a generation, all while lowering property taxes to ease the burden on local communities.”

“Now, more than ever, we need a budget that puts the future first. While Republican chaos in Washington threatens to gut education funding and erase protections for vulnerable students, we are committed to doing what’s right for every child, every teacher, and every family in this state.”

This event is a part of a series organized by Democratic members of the Joint Committee on Finance to ensure voices from every corner of Wisconsin are heard. With the official Joint Finance public hearings announced last week, which are limited in number and reach, these additional sessions fill in the gaps and make sure families, workers, and communities who are too often left out of the process have a seat at the table.
