MADISON—Today, Republican members of the Joint Committee on Finance once again failed to meet the needs of Wisconsin families, rejecting targeted proposals to address rising living costs and potential serious federal funding gaps. While Governor Evers’ budget prioritized food safety, affordable prescriptions, and workforce development, Republicans tore it all up as they prepare to unveil their tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy later this week.
The four Democratic members of the Joint Committee on Finance released the following statement:
“Families across Wisconsin are watching prices rise while federal support shrinks, and they need help immediately. Instead of stepping up, Republicans rejected plans to protect our food supply, lower prescription costs, and train the workers needed to keep our economy running.”
“Governor Evers offered a path forward. His budget would keep our grocery shelves safe by filling federal gaps in meat inspection, hold insurance companies accountable for unfair denials, and invest in training to close workforce shortages. Republican proposals came either woefully short or stayed silent in order to hoard state dollars to fund a tax cut for the wealthy.”
