The Joint Finance Committee is scheduled to begin its final push on the state budget with GOP legislative leaders hoping to finish work on the document by the end of next week.
A spokesperson for Tony Evers said there was no deal between GOP lawmakers and the Dem guv as of this morning.
Multiple GOP sources told WisPolitics some of the proposals Republican leaders were considering included: a small increase in funding for the UW system paired with “reforms,” a higher reimbursement rate for special education than the 37.5% the Finance Committee approved earlier this month, and a provision on child care as Evers has called to address those costs.
The committee is scheduled to convene this morning in an executive session that includes more than 50 topics, all of the remaining areas Joint Finance has yet to take up.

Before that, the committee will meet in a 13.10 to vote on several agency requests, including one from the Department of Public Instruction to release $49.7 million to fund a literacy package.
The committee originally received the request on March 7, 2024. But it held off releasing the money amid a dispute over a partial veto Dem Gov. Tony Evers issued to one of the bills that was part of the package. The state Supreme Court reversed that move Wednesday in a unanimous decision, and the money would lapse to the general fund if there’s no committee action by the end of the biennium on Monday.
